The Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band was founded in 1948 in Wythenshawe, Manchester. It was formed by the descendants of Irish immigrants to Manchester, to preserve and develop the tradition of Irish music and dance, but particularly to carry on the tradition of Irish pipe bands and their relatively unique style of pipe music.
The Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band is the oldest surviving Irish pipe band in the North of England. Since 1948, the Band has performed all over the North of England and on some occasions in London and the Midlands too. The Band has regularly performed at festivals in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria and of course in Ireland.
The Band is very proud to have played for two Presidents of Ireland. We played for President Eamonn de Valera in Dublin in 1966 and for President Mary Robinson in Manchester in 1994. The Band has also very proud to have performed for the staff of the Consulate General of Ireland North of England on several occasions.
